► FIP workshops: Making the ENVRIs “FIP for purpose” through FAIR Convergence

We invite you to a three-part workshop on FAIR Implementation Profiles (FIPs). For this series of workshops, we have invited experts in FAIR implementation to guide us through the steps needed to create our own FAIR Implementation Profiles (FIPs). The experts will provide an overview of the variety of options and technologies that are available to address each of the FAIR principles. Then, using state of the art tools, they will assist us in producing a set of machine-readable FAIR Implementation Profiles that support and inform FAIRification efforts both within, as well as between, ENVRI subdomain communities.

Speaker(s): Barbara Magagna, Eric Schultes

    • FIP Introduction, Time: 2022-01-25 Tuesday, 09:00-12:00
    • FIP consultation, Time: 2022-01-28 Friday, 09:00-12:00
    • FAIR convergence, Time: 2022-02-22 Tuesday, 09:00-12:00

► 2nd policy workshop: Policies required by EOSC and FAIR – policy framework draft

22-02-08 Tuesday, 9:00-12:00 CET

The 2nd ENVRI policy workshop concentrates on the newly created ENVRI Policy Framework. This document looks at some of the key policy drivers relevant to ENVRI data service providers – originating in the EOSC Rules of Participation, the FAIR Principles and developments such as the ENVRI-Hub – and derives requirements for ENVRI RIs policies needed to be compliant with these. The Policy Framework collects together 31 policy statements covering issues on a wide range of data-, metadata- and service related decisions, presents their interconnections, and gives notes on the policy implementation.

The main audience for the workshop are leaders and administrators in ENVRI Community RIs who are responsible for drafting and developing policies – but others with a keen interest in policy questions are also welcome.

During the workshop, we will discuss:

  • Are the suggested policy statements clear and understandable?
  • Is the level of detail suitable for use?
  • Are there clear challenges for implementation in your RI?
  • Have the policy drivers been correctly analysed?
  • Has your RI already implemented these policy statements?
  • What are the next steps to create a more harmonised RI policy landscape in ENVRI?

How can I prepare?:

It is recommended that all the participants read the draft Policy Framework from the perspective of their own RI. Please feel free to add your comments, questions and ideas into this collaborative GoogleDoc. For those wanting more background, we suggest looking at ENVRI-FAIR deliverable D4.2 “Policy landscape in the ENVRI domain”.

Programme overview

The workshop will be led by Ari Asmi and Keith Jeffery. We aim at a dynamic mix of shorter presentations, breakout group work, and common discussions supported by interactive polls.

Key points include:

  • Introduction to the policy drivers, requirement analysis and the draft policy framework
  • Split to small group discussions on specific policy areas
  • Common discussion on the policy areas and individual policy statements
