ELISE webinar “Using synonyms to improve discovery of geospatial data

December 3, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

ELISE invites you to a webinar “Using synonyms to improve discovery of geospatial data” that will be held on 3rd December 2020 at 14:00h CET (UTC+1).

The expert Marc Olijslagers from KU Leuven will walk us through the findings and achievements of the study commissioned by the EC Joint Research Centre to demonstrate the role of semantic interoperability as an enabler for enhancing the usability of data retrieval.

This research takes as reference the INSPIRE Directive and the INSPIRE Geoportal as a case study, however, the methodology that will be shown is reproducible in any other context.

This webinar will provide you with insights on:

  • The main findings of the performed study: methodology, challenges and lessons learned in the process of obtaining synonyms and related terms from other domains.
  • Suggestions on how to solve some of the challenges met in the process (e.g. difficulties in finding ontologies and their alignments)
  • The resulting dataset
  • Potential uses of the dataset that could be enhancing the INSPIRE Geoportal.
